Digital Impression
The quality of your dental impressions impact the fit and quality of your restorations. We use a 3D scanner to capture the surface of your teeth with outstanding accuracy.
Phase 2
Designing Your Crown
With the help of CEREC® design software, your doctor will design a beautiful crown that matches the look, feel, and functionality of your surrounding teeth. This process takes only a few minutes, and is usually done while you watch from the chair!
Phase 3
Fabrication & Bonding
After your crown is designed, it is sent to our in-office lab where it gets fabricated, then stained to your unique shade. Your new crown is then permanently bonded to your smile. You’re done!

Step 1: Scanning / Design
We use CEREC® Primescan to capture your smile in 3D with extreme fidelity. After analyzing the scan, our software will use artificial intelligence to help your doctor prepare the final design for your new crown.

Step 2: Milling
After your crown is designed, it is sent to our CEREC® Primemill where it is milled out of high strength zirconia, or lithium disilicate ceramic. This advanced mill can mill your crown in as little as 5 minutes!

Step 3: Finishing
We use the CEREC® Speedfire to sinter your restoration up to 1600 °C. This process seals in the color of your crown and transforms its molecular makeup into something strong enough to withstand harsh biting and chewing for many years to come!

What is a dental crown?
A dental crown, or “cap” is a life-like cover that is placed over a tooth. A dental crown will restore a tooth to its natural shape, size, and function. A crown may be used to make the tooth look better, make it stronger, or repair damage.
Why might I need a dental crown?
You may need a dental crown if:
- You have a cavity that is too large for filling
- Your tooth is damaged, worn, or otherwise compromised
- You have had root canal treatment (the crown will protect your tooth underneath)
- You want to improve your smile, or replace a discolored tooth
How long does it take?
Having a dental crown inserted at Evolve only takes a single visit at our office.
At many dental offices, a dental crown is typically requires multiple visits, where a “temporary” crown is inserted in lieu of a “final” crown which takes around 2-weeks to complete. If there is a shade mismatch with your final, this process may take even longer.
Are same-day crowns lower quality than traditional crowns?
Digitally designed crowns have a better fitment than traditional crowns, and can last even longer than traditional crowns- about 5 to 15 years.
Are same-day crowns expensive?
A same-day crown at Evolve costs virtually the same as a traditional dental crown. And, if you factor in the cost multiple visits, 2 week wait time, and possible errors, the cost is even less. Not to mention less stressful.
How does it not cost extra?
In short, it actually pretty expensive make crowns the old way. Traditional crowns have many overhead fees for doctors. From lab costs and materials, to covering for possible re-do’s (also buying that bad tasting goop they have you bite down on, that stuff is very expensive). These overhead costs, combined with up-charging, is why many people are still paying top dollar for such outdated dental treatment.
